Dean Miller Compliments Chinese Teachers

Dr. Fayneese Miller, Dean of the College of Education and Social Services (CESS), met with Chinese visiting teachers on Jan. 22, 2008.

Dean Miller highly complimented the accomplishments of the visiting teachers in helping Vermont children understand China. She said that one of the missions for CESS was to promote international understanding in Vermont schools through its courses and international exchange programs. "The world has become smaller, and the people in different countries are getting closer. We need to know how other people live and how they think about the world so that we can work with them to build a better world." In that regard, "it is extremely important for our children to learn what is happening outside their communities, beyond our state, and beyond our country. CESS will continue its efforts in international education and international exchange to make a difference in the global community." Dean Miller presented award certificates to the teachers who had finished their five-month visit to Vermont.

Each year CESS invites up to 10 Chinese teachers, four Japanese teachers, and four Thai teachers to help Vermont schools in teaching about Asia through the Asian Studies Outreach Program (ASOP). Among the Chinese seven teachers at the meeting with Dean Miller, two are from Beijing, three from Shandong Province, and two from Inner Mongolia. At the meeting were also personnel of CESS Dean's Office and ASOP.
